Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman continues to impress on the international stage, inching closer to qualifying for the prestigious Diamond League Final in Zurich.
Competing at the BAUHAUS-galan meet in Stockholm, Sweden, Newman cleared 4.60m to finish second behind Olympic champion Katie Nageotte of the United States. This result marks her third consecutive podium finish on the Diamond League circuit this season,
Impressive Season for Newman
- Finished third at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, with a jump of 4.70m.
- Won the Oslo Diamond League meeting with a clearance of 4.71m.
- Placed second at the Stockholm Diamond League with a jump of 4.60m.
Newman's consistent performances have placed her in a strong position to qualify for the Diamond League Final, which will be held on September 7-8 in Zurich. Currently, she sits sixth in the Diamond League standings with 15 points, just three points behind fifth-place finisher Wilma Murto of Finland.
The top eight athletes in the Diamond League standings will qualify for the Final, where they will compete for a share of the $30,000 prize pool. Newman will have two more opportunities to improve her standings at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 26 and the Paris Diamond League on August 28.
