George Kirby Shines in Mariners Debut
26-Year-Old Pitcher Dominates in First Outing
Seattle, WA
In a stunning debut, Seattle Mariners pitcher George Kirby threw seven scoreless innings on Friday night, leading the team to a victory. The 26-year-old right-hander dominated the mound, striking out three batters and allowing only two hits.
Kirby was drafted by the New York Mets in the 32nd round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft. He quickly rose through the Mariners' ranks, becoming their No. 3 prospect. In his first outing, he showed why he is so highly touted.
Kirby's performance was particularly impressive given that he was facing the Oakland Athletics, a team known for its strong offense. However, Kirby kept the A's batters off balance all night long, using his fastball and changeup to great effect.
