Jamie Benn Ejected Early in Game 3 of Western Conference Semifinals
Dallas Stars Captain Receives Game Misconduct for Cross-Check
Benn ejected just 1:45 into Game 3
Jamie Benn's night came to an abrupt end just 1:45 into Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights. The Stars captain was ejected after delivering a cross-check to the head of Vegas captain Mark Stone. The hit drew blood and resulted in a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for Benn.
The incident occurred in front of the Dallas bench. Stone had just passed the puck when Benn delivered the hit from behind. Stone immediately went down and appeared to be dazed. He was slow to get up and had to be helped off the ice.
The referees immediately called for a review of the play. After a lengthy discussion, they ruled that Benn's hit was a cross-check to the head and warranted a five-minute major and a game misconduct. Benn was visibly upset with the call and had to be escorted off the ice by the referees.
The loss of Benn is a major blow to the Stars, who are already trailing 2-0 in the series. Benn is the team's leading scorer in the playoffs with 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) and his physical presence will be missed.
